The Somerset Juniors are a part of the Somerset County
Fish and Game Protective Association established in 1921. The club's
by-laws established a Junior Club which is active
in
NRA and USA Shooting events.
Somerset Junior Rifle Club has a long tradition of champion
shooters. The junior club regularly competes at matches in NJ, PA,
CT, NRA Nationals at Camp Perry Ohio, USA Nationals at Fort Benning Ga.
and at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.
In the beginning it was a place for young shooters to go
to for basic instruction in firearm safety and hunting. Over time the
club has turned in to a highly competitive group of athletes, many of
our shooters have been national champions
winning Gold Medals at the Junior Olympics at The Olympic Training
Center, gold medals for 3 Position and Prone for high junior at Camp
Perry, American Legion National Champion, NCAA Small-bore Champion and
many NRA National Sectional individual and team Championship awards.
Many of our juniors have been on the USA National
Development Team and the USA National Team where they have represented
the club and the United States in competitions in England, German and
Italy.
Many of our athletes who graduate out of the program go
onto shoot at some of the top NCAA college teams in the country. Some of
the college teams include:
University of Alaska - University of Kentucky - University of Nebraska -
West Virginia University
-
Tennessee Tech - Xavier University -
Duquesne University -
United States Military Academy
